Oklahoma State got off to an up-and-down start this year, going 9-7 over their first 16 outings. The Cowboys are 6-2 since then however, beating Oklahoma, Iowa State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma again, TCU and Texas Tech in that time.
On Wednesday versus Texas Tech, the Cowboys were up 36-34 going into the second half. Oklahoma State hit a 35-34 run from there and won it 71-68. Bryce Thompson was the top team scorer on 21 points and three rebounds.
Iowa State Cyclones
Over on the Iowa State side, they posted a 13-2 run over their first 15 games of the year. The Cyclones are a rough 3-5 in the eight games since however, falling to Kansas, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Texas Tech and West Virginia along the way.
Matched up against West Virginia on Wednesday, the Cyclones trailed 36-30 in the locker room. Iowa State hit a 41-40 run in the second half but still lost 76-71. Jaren Holmes led the team on 18 points and Caleb Grill doubled on 13 points and 10 boards.

I’ll probably stick with Iowa State here. Also probably not touching it, though. The Cyclones have been frustratingly erratic lately, and they’re coming off a tough loss to West Virginia despite a 46 percent shooting percentage and a rebounding advantage over the Mountaineers 30-23. The Cyclones have lost four of their last six, including a 61-59 defeat at the hands of Oklahoma State on January 21 at Gallagher-Iba Arena the last time these teams met up. The Cyclones blew a 35-25 halftime lead in that one, so they’ll need to play a complete game here if they want to get some revenge. It’ll be an interesting and competitive matchup, but I think Iowa State can get there.
