Iowa State vs Texas Tech 1/10/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Iowa State Cyclones meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Hilton Coliseum. Texas Tech is 10-5 overall this year. The Red Raiders lost to Oklahoma in their last game on Saturday. As for Iowa State, they’re 12-2 following a close win over TCU in their most recent outing. Texas Tech went 10-2 over their first 12 games this year. The only losses in that time were to Creighton and Ohio State. The Red Raiders have since hit a three-game skid however, falling to TCU, Kansas and Oklahoma. 

Matched up against Oklahoma on Saturday, the Red Raiders scored 23 points in the first half, 33 more in the second and seven in overtime on the way to a 68-63 defeat. De’Vion Harmon was the top team scorer with 23 points and four rebounds. 

Over on the Iowa State side, they had just one loss to UConn in their first eight games. After another loss to Iowa, the Cyclones beat McNeese State, Western Michigan, Baylor, Oklahoma and TCU in succession. 

On Saturday versus TCU, the Cyclones were up 36-30 by halftime. Iowa State had to scramble in the second half and got outscored 37-33 but still won 69-67. Gabe Kalscheur managed 15 points with four assists to lead the way. 

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Iowa State. The Cyclones are on a nice run over this five-game win streak. They’ve been playing great defense, holding opponents to 67 points or fewer in each of those matchups. If they’re on point, Texas Tech could bring a little trouble in this matchup, though; the Raiders had a three-game stretch last month with a combined 323 points scored. That said, Texas Tech has also scored 63 points or fewer in two of the last three games. I like Iowa State to keep the Raiders in check on the way to a Cyclones cover.
