Southeast Missouri State began their season on a nice 5-1 run with only a loss to Bradley. Since then the Redhawks have gone 0-5, falling to UC Davis, Milwaukee, Missouri, Fort Wayne and Arkansas State.
In the matchup versus Arkansas State on Wednesday, the Redhawks held a two-point lead at halftime. Southeast Missouri State was outscored 44-35 from there and lost 68-61. Adam Larson led the team on 19 points.
Over on the Iowa side, they won five straight games to kick off the season before a loss to TCU on November 26. The Hawkeyes are 2-2 since with wins over Georgia Tech and Iowa State alongside losses to Duke and Wisconsin.
In the Wisconsin matchup, the Hawkeyes pushed the Badgers to the limit in an overtime affair. Iowa ended up losing 78-75 after a valiant effort at home. Connor McCaffrey doubled up in the loss with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
PICK: I’ll stick with Iowa. The Hawkeyes nearly upset a very good Wisconsin team in their last matchup, shooting 42.2 percent from the floor with a 42-33 rebounding advantage (10-4 offensive). Iowa is just 2-3 over their last five games but all three losses have come to ranked squads. Otherwise the Hawkeyes are cruising along nicely this year and shouldn’t have a ton of trouble with Southeast Missouri State. I think the margin of victory will be enough for a cover in this one.
