Denver got off to a 34-27 halftime lead versus Regis University in their opener, eventually hanging on for a 68-65 win. KJ Hunt was the top scorer there with 17 points and six rebounds. Jordan Johnson added 12 points with four boards and four assists as well.

In game two, the Pioneers got into some trouble versus Ottawa AZ. Denver was down 39-24 at the break, and couldn’t come back despite 47 points in the second half. Hunt was again the team’s top scorer with 23 points, four assists and three boards.

Over on the IUPUI side, they were only able to put up 19 points in the first half of their opener game against Butler. Ultimately the Jaguars lost 56-47. The team’s only double-digit scorer was BJ Maxwell with 14 points and six rebounds in 26 minutes of play.

The Jaguars couldn’t get it going against Evansville in their second game either. IUPUI put up just 19 points in the first half again, limping to a 60-40 blowout loss. Maxwell was again the top contributor, but he scored just eight points with four boards in 31 minutes.

Denver is 0-6 ATS in their last six overall and 0-5 ATS in their last five as an underdog. The over is 4-1 in the Pioneers’ last five overall.

Meanwhile, the Jaguars are 4-1 ATS in their last five neutral-site games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight Monday games. IUPUI is 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss.

PICK: I suppose I’m taking Denver, but it’s the lesser of two evils. Neither team has looked all that great so far. The Pioneers couldn’t recover after an ugly first half against Ottawa AZ in their last game (a team they should have beaten) but the 47 second-half points are encouraging I suppose.

As for IUPUI, they’ve scored just 87 points so far in their first two games. In the Evansville matchup, the Jaguars shot just 33.3 percent from the floor, 21.4 percent from 3-point range and a meager 5-of-10 from the line. This game could get ugly shooting-wise on both sides, but at least it’ll be a good matchup.
