The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats will travel to the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center to take on the Jackson State Tigers this Monday night in College Basketball action.

The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats improved to 7-17 on the season after defeating the Alcorn State Braves, 71-63 (OT), this past Saturday. Bethune-Cookman was able to fight back from a 35-27 halftime deficit to force OT and had no trouble pulling away for the victory behind a strong defensive effort in OT. Bethune-Cookman shot 49.0% from the field & 36.4% from beyond the arc while holding Alcorn State to 39.3% from the field & 26.3% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Wildcats was Marcus Garrett who had 24 points, 4 rebounds, & 5 assists.

On the season, Bethune-Cookman is averaging 61.4 ppg on 41.2% shooting from the field. The Wildcats are averaging 4.3 three-pointers per game on 31.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Bethune-Cookman has been led by Joe French (15.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg), Kevin Davis (13.1 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 1.1 apg, 1.2 spg), Marcus Garrett (11.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.1 spg), & Damani McEntire (5.3 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.7 apg, 2.3 spg).

Defensively, Bethune-Cookman is allowing their opponents to average 71.0 ppg on 43.1% shooting from the field. The Wildcats have a rebound margin of -3.7 and a turnover margin of 0.5.

The Jackson State Tigers won their 3rd straight game and improved to 7-16 on the season after defeating the Florida A&M Rattlers, 60-56, this past Saturday. Jackson State trailed by a 49-43 margin midway through the 2nd half, however, the Tigers defense was outstanding down the stretch and was able to pull away for good after a three-point play by Terrence Lewis II gave Jackson State a 56-54 lead with 1:02 left in regulation. Jackson State shot 42.0% from the field & 10.0% from beyond the arc while allowing Florida A&M to shoot 46.9% from the field & 16.7% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Tigers was Terrence Lewis II who had 19 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, & 3 steals.

On the season, Jackson State is averaging 59.0 ppg on 38.8% shooting from the field. The Tigers are averaging 5.1 three-pointers per game on 28.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Jackson State has been led by Jayveous McKinnis (12.1 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 1.3 spg, 3.4 bpg), Terence Lewis II (7.9 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.0 spg), Jonas James III (7.7 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.1 spg), & Malachi Wideman (6.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.2 apg).

Defensively, Jackson State is holding their opponents to an average of 65.9 ppg on 43.4% shooting from the field. The Tigers have a rebound margin of 0.9 and a turnover margin of -1.1.

The Wildcats are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Monday games & 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Tigers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Monday games & 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall.

Bethune-Cookman was able to pick up a 55-50 win against Jackson State earlier this season, however, this is a Wildcats team that is just 2-10 on the road and have struggled on both ends of the court as they come into this game ranked 341st in scoring offense, 229th in scoring defense, & 306th in rebound margin. Jackson State played a brutal schedule to start the season, however, despite their record, they are still an above average team in the SWAC and between the fact that the Tigers have a winning record at home and that their defense, which ranks 84th in scoring defense, should give Bethune-Cookman plenty of trouble, I’m taking Jackson State to cover this mid-range home spread. Good Luck!
