The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats and the Jackson State Tigers meet Monday in college basketball action from Williams Assembly Center. Bethune-Cookman is 12-13 this year after a loss to Alcorn State over the weekend. As for Jackson State, they’re 11-14 following a win over Florida A&M in their last outing. Bethune-Cookman Wildcats

The Wildcats have had a pretty choppy year so far, and were just 6-9 in mid-January. Bethune-Cookman is 6-4 in their last 10 games, taking wins over Southern, MS Valley State, Jackson State, Alabama State, Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern during that time.

In the Alcorn State matchup on Saturday, the Wildcats fell back into the loss column. Bethune-Cookman was down 34-21 going into the second half and didn’t end up getting any closer on a 35-33 stretch toward a 69-54 loss. Reggie Ward was tops on the team with 27 points and two assists.

Jackson State Tigers

Over on the Tigers’ side, they managed a 7-9 run through their first 16 games this year. Jackson State is 4-5 since then with losses to Prairie View A&M, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Grambling and Southern, but they are also sitting on a three-game win streak.

Jackson State’s latest win came on Saturday versus Florida A&M in blowout fashion. The Tigers held a 36-28 edge going into the second half, then hit a 41-27 advantage the rest of the way in a 77-55 win. Jordan O’Neal led the team on his 22 points with 13 rebounds in 27 minutes of work.

ANDREW’S FREE BETHUNE-COOKMAN VS JACKSON STATE PREDICTION

I’m going to try Jackson State here. The Tigers are playing well right now and coming off a dominant performance versus a struggling Florida A&M squad. Jackson State shot a nice 44.8 percent from the field with a 42-20 rebounding edge in that one, but did have 12 turnovers. That makes 76 or more points in three straight games (all wins) for the Tigers.

Jackson State lost the last meeting between these two teams 82-71 in a road matchup back on January 27. The Tigers didn’t shoot very well (36.2 percent) and coughed up 15 turnovers that led to 22 Wildcats points. I like this one to be a cleaner game overall, and if Jackson State can get it going early on the scoreboard I think they’ll be fine cover-wise.
