The Elon Phoenix and the Jacksonville State Gamecocks meet in college basketball action from the Pete Mathews Coliseum on Tuesday night.
The Elon Phoenix will be out to bounce back from a 74-63 loss at the hands of NC State last time out. Torrance Watson leads Elon in scoring and rebounding with 13.2 PPG and 5.8 RPG while Sean Halloran has 11.8 PPG and a team-high 4.6 APG to lead the Phoenix in assists up to this point in the season as the only other double-digit scorer for Elon so far. As a team, Elon is averaging 71.4 PPG on 43% shooting from the field, 29.8% from three and 70.6% from the foul line this season.
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks will look to bounce back after a 104-62 loss to Alabama in their last game. Amanze Ngumezi and Skyelar Potter each have a team-high 13 PPG as well as 4 RPG while Demaree King has 12.3 PPG to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Jacksonville State up to this point in the year. Juwan Perdue leads the Gamecocks on the glass with 7 RPG while Peyton Daniels has a team-high 3.7 APG to lead the Gamecocks in assists this season. As a team, Jacksonville State is averaging 77.7 PPG on 44.3% shooting from the field, 40% from three and 64.7% from the foul line this season.
Elon is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400. Jacksonville State is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS loss while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 Tuesday games.
I get the reasoning for backing either side here, but while Elon put up a fight against NC State, they’ve had defense issues pretty much all season long up to this point. That’s a good jumpoff point for Jacksonville State to get rolling after a couple of sluggish road performances against UIC and Alabama and I just think that Jacksonville State wakes up here and deals one to Elon. Give me the Gamecocks laying the points.
