Kentucky Wildcats

Kentucky posted a 21-10 record during the regular season. The Wildcats went 4-1 over their last five games with a 68-66 loss to Vanderbilt as the lone blemish in that stretch. In the SEC Tournament matchup, Kentucky fell 80-73 to Vanderbilt in an early exit.

On Friday in NCAA Tournament First Round action versus Providence, Kentucky took a 38-31 edge into the second half. The Wildcats hit a 23-22 run from there and won it 61-53. Tops in scoring was Antonio Reeves with 22 points. Oscar Tshiebwe added 25 rebounds with eight points.

Kansas State Wildcats

Over on the Kansas State side, they got out of the regular season with a 23-8 record. The Wildcats ended the schedule with a loss to West Virginia 89-81, then fell to TCU 80-67 in the first game of the Big 12 tournament.

In Friday’s tournament matchup versus Montana State, the Wildcats managed a 34-28 edge by halftime. Kansas State cruised on a 43-37 second half and took the victory 77-65. Leading team scorer Keyontae Johnson managed 18 points with eight rebounds along the way.

I’ll probably stay with Kansas State. The Wildcats didn’t have too many issues with Montana State on Friday, shooting 58.2 percent from the field with 29 rebounds and 21 team assists. Kansas State is 5-2 i n their last seven outings, scoring 73 or more points in five of their last six as well. As for Kentucky, they shot a tepid 36.5 percent from the field in their Friday game, along with a 48-31 rebounding edge to make up for it. The Wildcats have scored 73 or more points in four of their last six games, but I don’t think they’ll keep a cover pace over Kansas State here. Should be a fun matchup, though.
