Texas Tech hasn’t had too much trouble this year. They’ve been a strong team the whole way, with only a few scattered losses. The Raiders are 3-2 in their last five however, with losses to TCU and Oklahoma State mixed among wins versus Kansas State, Iowa State and Oklahoma.
In the Friday tournament game versus Oklahoma, Texas Tech held a 37-26 lead by halftime. The Red Raiders were outscored 29-29 from there but were able to hang on for the tense 56-55 win. Leading scorers Kevin Obanor and Davion Warren had 11 points and three rebounds apiece.
Over on the Kansas side, they were sitting at 23-4 back in late February before consecutive losses to Baylor and TCU. The Jayhawks have bounced back since then, taking four straight wins over TCU, Texas, West Virginia and TCU again.
Matched up against TCU in the tournament on Friday, the Jayhawks managed a 44-30 lead by halftime. Kansas kept the pace the rest of the way and ended up with a nice 75-62 win. Leading the way in scoring during the victory was Ochai Agbaji with 22 points and three rebounds in 34 minutes of work.
PICK: I’m probably going to take a stab on Texas Tech. The Red Raiders have had a couple of close losses over the last five—and also struggled in the second half versus Oklahoma on Friday. This one’s looking like another tight matchup; Texas Tech won 75-67 in the first meeting versus Kansas this year and fell 94-91 in double overtime during the rematch.
As for Kansas, they’ve been impressive over this four-game win streak, with 70 or more points scored in each outing. The Jayhawks have been great over the past couple of months but they’ve also had some close escapes against quality teams (including Texas Tech). This one’s likely going to come down to the wire as well, and it should be a great matchup to watch.
