The UMKC Kangaroos and the Kansas Jayhawks meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Allen Fieldhouse. Kansas City snapped a five-game winning streak with a win over Southeast Missouri State in their last outing, improving the Roos to 3-5 overall. As for 7-1 Kansas, they’re sitting on three straight wins following a victory over UConn on Friday. Let’s get into our UMKC vs. Kansas prediction. UMKC Kangaroos
The Roos managed consecutive wins out of the gate this year over Avila and University of Saint Mary, but then hit the skids. Kansas City would fall in their next five games to Baylor, Colorado State, UNC Greensboro, Brown and Middle Tennessee. In the 63-59 loss to the Raiders, the Roos posted 44.2 percent from the field with 31 rebounds and 12 assists.
UMKC finally got back into the win column versus Southeast Missouri State in their last outing. The Kangaroos were up 38-17 going into the second half and cruised on 36 more points in a 74-44 win. Tops in scoring was Jamar Brown with his 19 points, six rebounds and three steals in the victory.
Kansas Jayhawks
Over on the Jayhawks’ side, they opened up the year with four straight victories over North Carolina Central, Manhattan, Kentucky and Chaminade. After a loss to Marquette 73-59, Kansas got back into the groove with wins over Tennessee and Eastern Illinois in the next pair of outings.
Matched up against UConn on Friday, the Jayhawks were able to keep the win streak going. Kansas held a 38-31 edge at the break and fended off the Huskies in the second half for a 69-65 win. Leading team scorer Kevin McCullar finished with 21 points and five boards, while KJ Adams put up 18 points and five rebounds.
ANDREW’S FREE UMKC VS KANSAS PREDICTION
I’ll stay with Kansas here. The line’s too thick to mess with, though. The Jayhawks have had a very tough schedule so far this year, and for the most part they’ve played well. In their last matchup versus UConn, Kansas finished with a nice 50 percent shooting from the field and 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from 3-point range. The Jayhawks weren’t great on the offensive glass (a 10-5 deficit) but controlled the ball well with just eight turnovers. Kansas has hit 69 or more points in all seven of their wins this year.
As for UMKC, they were able to control an overmatched SEMO team well in their last outing but needless to say this will be a significant uptick in competition. Unless Kansas calls off the proverbial dogs and the Roos catch fire in garbage time, I don’t see UMKC finishing anywhere near a cover on Tuesday.
