The Utah Utes and the Kansas Jayhawks meet Saturday in college basketball action from Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence. Here’s a Kansas vs Utah prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Kansas vs Utah pick.

Utah Utes Betting Preview

The Utes managed to go 8-4 over their first 12 games this year. The losses in that time came versus Cal Poly, Grand Canyon, California and Mississippi State. After that came losses to Washington, Arizona, Colorado, BYU and Texas Tech before a win over TCU. The next three were losses to Kansas State, BYU and Oklahoma State though, giving the Utes a 9-12 run over their first 21 games this year.

On Wednesday versus Arizona State, the Utes were in major trouble at halftime sporting a 41-25 deficit. Utah got better from there on a 38-30 advantage but it wasn’t nearly enough for the comeback in a 71-63 loss at home. Don McHenry was tops on 23 points and three boards while Seydou Traore added 16 points. James Okonkwo put up 14 rebounds with six points as well.

Kansas Jayhawks Betting Preview

Over on the Kansas side, they were able to go 11-5 in their first 16 outings this year. The Jayhawks lost to North Carolina, duke, UConn, Central Florida and West Virginia during that run. Kansas has since won six straight, taking out Iowa State, Baylor, Colorado, Kansas State, BYU and Texas Tech. Over the first 22 outings of the season that gives Kansas a 17-5 overall run in the books so far.

Matched up against Texas Tech back on Monday the Jayhawks were sitting in the locker room with a 32-29 advantage. Kansas kept the pace in the second half on a 32-32 run and got away with a nice win on the road versus a very tough team 64-61. Darryn Peterson was the leading team scorer with his 19 points and two boards while Melvin Council had 16 points with seven rebounds and two assists in the victory effort for the Jayhawks.

Why the Kansas Jayhawks will win

  • Kansas has won each of its last 12 games at Allen Fieldhouse against non-AP-ranked opponents.
  • Utah has lost each of its last 11 road games against Conference opponents.
  • Kansas has won the first half in each of its last 11 games at Allen Fieldhouse.

Why the Utah Utes will win

  • Kansas has lost four of its last five February games as a top-15 AP-ranked team against a non-AP-ranked team.
  • The road team has won three of Kansas’ last four games.
  • Kansas has lost the first half in three of its last four home games as a top-15 AP-ranked team against a non-AP-ranked team.

Kansas vs Utah Prediction

I’m going to stick with Kansas, but you could probably argue this one either way. The Jayhawks are on a nice run right now and coming off a solid win versus a talented Red Raiders team. In that one, Kansas shot 45.3 percent from the field with a 26-14 advantage on points in the paint and 36 rebounds. The Jayhawks held Texas Tech to just 31.9 percent shooting but did have 15 turnovers themselves. Kansas has won six straight games now with 75 or more points scored in five of them.

As for Utah, they looked pretty bad in Salt Lake City against a middling Arizona State team this week. The Utes shot just 39 percent from the field with 12 turnovers in that one, getting burned by an impressive performance at the line by the Sun Devils (22-of-25 for 88 percent). Utah really needs a shot in the arm after four straight losses. They’ve given up 81 or more points in three of those four as well.
