The Liberty Flames and the Kennesaw State Owls meet Thursday in college basketball action from KSU Convention Center. Liberty is coming off a Tuesday game versus Jacksonville. In that one the Flames managed a blowout win. As for Kennesaw State, they’re sitting at 8-8 on the season and coming off a win over North Florida. Liberty stumbled out of the gate this year with three losses in four games but quickly found their footing. The Flames went on a 7-3 run over their following 10 games, and in the next four took out Boyce, Stetson, North Florida and Florida Gulf Coast in succession.
On Tuesday versus Jacksonville, Liberty posted a 40-30 edge in the first half and a 48-19 run from there in an 88-49 blowout win. Tops in scoring was Darius McGhee with 27 points, and Keegan McDowell chipped in 21 points as well.
Over on the Kennesaw State side, their year began on a 4-8 run over the first dozen. The Owls beat Piedmont, Carver, Charleston Southern and Voorhees in that time. Kennesaw State has beaten Toccoa Falls, Florida Gulf Coast, Stetson and North Florida in their last quartet.
Matched up against North Florida on Monday, the Owls were down 34-28 at halftime. Kennesaw State bounced back on a 34-26 run from there in a 62-60 comeback win. Chris Youngblood led the way on 16 points and four rebounds.
The Owls are 5-1 ATS in their last six at home and 6-2 ATS in the last eight after an ATS loss. The over is 15-5-1 in Kennesaw State’s last 21 overall.
Meanwhile, the Flames are 2-5 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win and the over is 7-1 in their last eight overall. The over is 6-0 in Liberty’s last six road games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Kennesaw State here. The Owls had an ugly stretch of games going in November and December, but the team was still scoring well. Kennesaw State has hit 71 or more points in 12 of their 16 games so far this year. That said, the Owls do give up some pretty big points totals to good offensive teams. Liberty has been scoring well themselves lately so this should be a pretty high-total game if both teams are on.
