The Detroit Titans and the Kent State Golden Flashes meet Thursday in college basketball action from Kent State Mac Center. Detroit is 2-6 so far this year. The Titans are coming off a win over UIC in their last outing. As for the Flashes, they’re 4-3 so far and lost to Towson in their last game. Detroit started off on an 0-6 skid this year, losing to Wyoming, Toledo, Mississippi State, Louisville, Hofstra and Northeastern. The Titans have managed wins in their last two however, taking out IUPUI and UIC in that span.
In the UIC game, Detroit was outscored 27-21 in the first half but rallied from there with 43 more points in a 64-56 win. Tops in scoring was Antoine Davis with 19 points, five assists and two rebounds. Madut Akec added 18 points and eight boards as well.
Over on the Kent State side, they went 3-1 in their first four games with wins over Orberlin, James Madison and George Washington. The Flashes have gone 1-2 since, with a win over Point Park between losses to East Tennessee State and Towson.
On Monday in the Towson game, Kent State fell behind 43-29 at the break and didn’t get any closer than that in a 73-58 loss. Sincere Carry topped the team with 17 points, five assists and four boards, while Giovanni Santiago put up 16 points.
The Flashes are 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven at home and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 overall. The under is 6-1-1 in Kent State’s last eight overall.
Meanwhile, the Titans are 12-5-2 ATS in their last 19 overall and the under is 4-1 in their last five overall. The under is 4-1 in Detroit’s last five road games as well.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Kent State. The Flashes need a good bounce-back game here, though. Kent State shot just 28.8 percent against Towson in their last outing and were out-rebounded 41-27. It’s been a spotty scoring run for the Flashes, with 58 points or fewer in two of their last three. That said, Detroit probably won’t push Kent State too hard on the scoreboard so there should be plenty of opportunities to move toward a cover here.
