The Howard Bison and Kentucky Wildcats meet Monday in college basketball action at the Rupp Arena. The Howard Bison are coming off a 16-win season. The Kentucky Wildcats are coming off a 26-win season.
The Howard Bison enter the fourth season under coach Kenneth Blakeney. Elijah Hawkins returns after averaging 13 points and 3.8 rebounds, while Bryce Harris averaged 4.5 points and 2.8 rebounds. Jordan Wood played in 248 minutes last season, and Khalil Robinson averaged 1.4 rebounds. Howard says goodbye to the majority of last year’s roster, but does return one of its top players in Hawkins, who had a terrific freshman season. Howard is sure to go through growing pains with so much roster turnover.
The Kentucky Wildcats enter the 14th season under coach John Calipari. Oscar Tshiebwe returns after averaging 17.4 points and 15.1 rebounds, while Sahvir Wheeler averaged 10.1 points and 6.9 assists. Daimion Collins played in 202 minutes last season, and Jacob Toppin averaged 3.2 rebounds. Kentucky also lands a pair of 5-star recruits in Chris Livingston and Cason Wallace. Illinois State transfer Antonio Reeves also joins the squad, a knockdown shooter who averaged 20.1 points last year for the Redbirds. As usual, there’s a lot to like with Kentucky.
The Bison are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games and 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Wildcats are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The over is 5-2 in Bison last 7 road games. The over is 9-2 in Wildcats last 11 home games.
It usually takes the Kentucky Wildcats a while to get going with so much roster turnover and youth, and that can make them tricky to lay a bunch of points with. However, there’s a massive gape in talent between these teams, and the Howard Bison don’t have anybody who can take over games of this magnitude. Just off talent alone, Big Blue should be able to pull away in this spot. Lots of points, but it’s Kentucky or pass for me.
