The Kentucky Wildcats and the Michigan State Spartans meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Kentucky is 2-0 so far and coming off a win over Duquesne. Kentucky didn’t have a ton of trouble with Howard in their opener. The Wildcats scored 49 points in the first half and cruised to a 95-63 win. Leading scorer Antonio Reeves posted 22 points, and CJ Fredrick added 20 points of his own.
Game two against Duquesne was a pretty smooth run for Kentucky as well. The Wildcats held the Dukes to just 22 first-half points and won 77-52. Sahvir Wheeler doubled up on 11 points and 11 assists, while Reeves led the scorers on 18 points.
Over on the Michigan State side, they got off to a 34-20 halftime lead in their opener versus Northern Arizona and ended up winning 73-55. Tops in scoring was Joey Hauser with 18 points and 10 boards. Pierre Brooks posted 14 points as well.
In their second outing of the year against Gonzaga, Michigan State had a much tougher matchup but still hung in there. After a 38-31 halftime lead, the Spartans ultimately lost 64-63. Both Tyson Walker and AJ Hoggard led the team on 12 points apiece.
The Wildcats are 8-20 ATS in their last 28 Tuesday games and 5-18 ATS in the last 23 after an ATS win. Michigan State is 6-1 ATS in their last seven neutral-site games and 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Kentucky. The Wildcats have two pretty routine games under their collective belt so far and this will certainly be their toughest challenge yet. That said, Kentucky has played pretty great all-around basketball in their first pair, notching 45.9 percent shooting and 46 rebounds in their latest win. Michigan State is a feisty team that pushed Gonzaga to the limit in their last outing but I think Kentucky can power through and cover. Should be a really fun matchup regardless.
