George Mason hit a 7-5 run to start this season. The Patriots played just one game (a loss to Kansas) between December 21 and January 17. Since then it’s been a loss to George Washington, four straight victories and a loss to Saint Louis.
Matched up against the Billikens on Wednesday, the Patriots fought back from a 33-38 halftime deficit to force OT. After two extra periods, George Mason and a tough 92-90 loss. Tops in scoring was Josh Oduro with 32 points and six boards.
Over on the La Salle side, they posted a 5-4 run to kick off the season, then lost four straight games in December/January. After a win over St. Joseph’s, the Explorers lost to Rhode Island, Richmond, UMass, Davidson and George Washington.
In the George Washington game on Wednesday, the Explorers were down 46-48 at the break. La Salle kept the pace from there but ended up with an 89-87 loss. Jhamir Brickus led the team with 20 points, eight assists and two boards.
The Explorers are 1-4 ATS in their last five at home and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 Saturday games. The over is 5-1 in La Salle’s last six Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Patriots are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 overall. George Mason is 5-1 ATS in the last six Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to stay with George Mason. the Patriots had been on a nice 4-0 stretch before the 2OT Saint Louis loss. They hit 72 or more points in three of those games and seemed to be finding a nice rhythm.
As for La Salle, they’ve been below 70 points in three of their last five but have had a couple of close calls during this five-game losing streak. I like the Explorers to hang around for a while here before the Patriots power out a cover.
