The St. Joseph’s Hawks and the La Salle Explorers meet Wednesday in Atlantic 10 Tournament college basketball action from Capital One Arena. St. Joseph’s is 11-18 this year so far. The Hawks beat Rhode Island in their last game. As for La Salle, they’re sitting at 10-18 and coming off a win over Duquesne. St. Joseph’s started out the year at a decent 7-5, but they haven’t been able to win consecutive games since then. The Hawks recently had a seven-game losing streak going, but broke it with a win over Rhode Island over the weekend.
On Saturday versus Rhode Island, the Hawks were up by seven points by the break. St. Joseph’s his a 38-35 second-half run during a 70-60 victory. Tops in scoring was Erik Reynolds with 27 points and four assists.
Over on the La Salle side, their season began at 5-4, but the Explorers won just two games from December 11 to February 26. The last three have all been wins over Dayton, Saint Joseph’s and Duquesne, though.
Matched up against Duquesne on Saturday, the Explorers scored 39 points in the first half and 46 more in the second during an 85-76 win. Leading the way for La Salle was Jack Clark on 30 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
La Salle is 5-15 ATS in their last 20 neutral-site games and 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. The Explorers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Hawks are 15-33-1 ATS in their last 49 after an ATS win. The under is 5-1 in St. Joseph’s last six Wednesday games and 4-0 in their last four overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on La Salle here, but probably not touching it. The Explorers finally have a win streak going right now, despite narrowly escaping in two of the three victories. La Salle has also scored 60 or fewer points in three of their last four games, so they’re not exactly the most intimidating team out there.
That said, La Salle has won both matchups between these teams this year, 75-64 and 49-48. This is likely going to be another tight affair, and I like the Explorers a little better on a cover.
