The Navy Midshipmen and the Lafayette Leopards meet Monday in college basketball action from Kirby Sports Center. Navy is 10-4 so far this year. The Midshipmen are coming off a win over Bucknell. Navy lost two of their first three games this year, then hit a five-game win streak before a loss to George Mason. Since then it’s been a 1-3 run for the Midshipmen with wins over Marist, Holy Cross, Boston U and Bucknell.
Matched up against Bucknell on Friday, the Midshipmen outscored the Bison 41-23 in the second half on the way to a 73-55 win. Daniel Deaver led the way on 20 points, and John Carter put up 18 points with three rebounds.
Over on the Lafayette side, they went 2-4 over their first six games with victories versus Rutgers and Columbia. It’s been a 1-5 run since with losses to Sacred Heart, NJIT, Delaware, Princeton and Holy Cross.
Matched up against Holy Cross, the Leopards had a 38-34 lead at halftime but couldn’t hold it in a 79-74 defeat. Tyrone Perry topped the team on 18 points, five rebounds and five assists. Neal Quinn put up 16 points with eight boards.
The Leopards are 0-6 ATS in their last six at home and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. Lafayette is 6-0 ATS in their last six Monday games.
Meanwhile, the Midshipmen are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 road games and 35-17 ATS in the last 52 overall. Navy is 0-4 ATS in their last four Monday games.
PICK: I’m going with Navy here. The Midshipmen have been putting up some solid points totals over their last three games, with 70 or more in each. It’s been a good turnaround from the previous four games, where Navy hit a max of 65 points. I don’t think the Midshipmen will have too much trouble scoring in this one. Lafayette routinely gives up big totals to decent teams this year. If Navy comes in on point I think they’ll get there on a cover.
