The LA-Monroe Warhawks and the Lamar Cardinals meet Monday in college basketball action from Montagne Center. LA Monroe is 7-4 on the season so far. LA-Monroe started off the year on a 2-4 clip, losing to LSU, Auburn, LA Tech and SMU along the way. Since then the Warhawks have won five straight games versus Centenary (La.), NW State, LA College, Stephen F. Austin and Southern Miss.
Matched up against Southern Miss on Saturday. LA-Monroe used a 43-34 edge in the second half to propel themselves to a 74-65 win. Andre Jones led the way on 18 points and four assists, while Koreem Ozier finished with 15 points and four assists.
Over on the Lamar side, they beat Wiley in their first outing of the season, then hit a seven-game losing streak that stretched from November 13 to December 2. Since then it’s been a 1-3 run with losses to TX-Arlington, Texas State and Texas A&M-CC.
In the Saturday game against the Islanders, the Cardinals were down 19-16 at halftime and couldn’t come back in an eventual 57-53 loss. Kasen Harrison led the way on 14 points, and Jordyn Adams added 12 points with three boards.
Lamar is 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight overall and 5-0-1 ATS in their last six home games. The under is 10-4 in the Cardinals’ last 14 at home.
Meanwhile, the Warhawks are 4-0 ATS in their last four overall and 16-5-1 ATS in their last 22 Monday games. The over is 6-1 in LA-Monroe’s last seven overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with LA-Monroe. The Warhawks had to work to shake of Southern Miss in their last game, but ultimately ended up shooting 46.7 percent from the floor with 31 rebounds and 15 team assists in the win. It’s been a nice five-game run for LA-Monroe lately.
As for Lamar, they posted a valiant effort in their last game but generally the Cardinals haven’t produced enough offense to be competitive. I don’t think they’ll keep up with LA-Monroe if the Warhawks are on point, either.
