The New Orleans Privateers and the Lamar Cardinals meet Monday in college basketball action from Montagne Center. Here’s a Lamar vs New Orleans prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Lamar vs New Orleans pick.

New Orleans Privateers Betting Preview

The Privateers have certainly had plenty of difficulties this year, and the losses continue to stack up. New Orleans went just 2-4 over their first half-dozen outings, falling to Kansas State, Troy, Stonehill, and Robert Morris alongside wins over Lindenwood and Tulane in that time. A lengthy losing streak began on November 27 versus Baylor. New Orleans would fall to Nicholls State, Iowa, Texas, LSU, McNeese State, Vanderbilt, UT Rio Grande Valley, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in succession after that, leaving them with a 2-13 record through 15 games.

In their Saturday matchup versus Southeastern Louisiana, the Privateers were blitzed in the first half and went into the locker room holding a 47-27 deficit. New Orleans kept the pace from there but didn’t end up getting any closer in an eventual 91-71 blowout loss. Tops in scoring was MJ Thomas with 18 points and three rebounds. James White added 15 points with three boards and one assist in 32 minutes. Dae Dae Hunter put up 11 points with two rebounds, one steal, one block, and two boards, while Kohen Rowbatham came off the bench to provide the Privateers with nine points, three assists, one steal, and one rebound in 18 minutes of work.

Lamar Cardinals Betting Preview

Over on the Lamar side, they’ve fared better this season but did struggle mightily out of the gate. The Cardinals beat Paul Quinn in their opener, then fell to Texas A&M, Sam Houston, Akron, Alabama State, and Omaha in the next five. Lamar would go a nice 8-1 over the next nine games, though. The lone loss in that time was versus Texas Tech. Otherwise, the Cardinals took out Our Lady of the Lake, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UT Rio Grande Valley, Louisiana, Southern Miss, Texas A&M-San Antonio, Houston Christian, and Incarnate Word, leaving the team with a 9-6 overall record through their first 15 games of the season.

Matched up against Stephen F. Austin in their weekend game, the Cards were looking good after the first half, holding a 37-32 edge by the break. Lamar was outpaced 40-26 in the second half however, eventually listened 72-63 in the end. Andrew Holifield was the team’s top scorer in the losing effort, with 13 points, five rebounds, two blocks, and two assists. Adam Hamilton added 12 points with six rebounds and two assists, while Ja’Sean Jackson put up 10 points with three assists, two steals and one rebound. Danquez Dawsey led the bench players for the Cardinals with eight points, two steals, and one assist in 22 minutes on the court.

Why the Lamar Cardinals will win

  • New Orleans has lost each of its last 10 games.
  • Lamar has won six of its last seven night games.
  • New Orleans has lost the first half in each of its last 10 games.

Why the New Orleans Privateers will win

  • New Orleans has won four of its last five games at Neches Arena.
  • The road team has won the first half in each of New Orleans’ last three games.

Lamar vs New Orleans Prediction

I’ll lean toward Lamar, but there’s not a lot to get excited about here with both teams coming off losses. The Cardinals shot a tepid 39.7 percent from the field with 15 turnovers for 22 opposition points in their latest loss to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday. Lamar was pretty good from the line (80 percent) and had 33 rebounds, but had major issues scoring. During this current 8-2 stretch, the Cardinals have had bouts of futility on the scoreboard. They’ve hit below 70 points in five of those 10 games.

As for New Orleans, they shot a feeble 38 percent from the field with a 43-28 rebounding deficit in their latest loss to Southeastern Louisiana. The Privateers have scored a combined 154 points in their last two outings—which is good. That said, New Orleans has also given up a combined 188 points in those same two games—which is bad. Lamar should have plenty of room to put up points here, and if they can take advantage I like the Cardinals to roll.
