Lamar vs Texas A&M-Commerce Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 1/26/23

The Texas A&M-Commerce Lions and the Lamar Cardinals meet Thursday in college basketball action from Montagne Center. Texas A&M-Commerce comes into this game at 8-13 overall. The Lions lost to SE Louisiana in their last outing. As for Lamar, they’re sitting at 6-14 after a loss to Incarnate Word on Saturday. Texas A&M-Commerce Lions 

Texas A&M-Commerce went 5-11 over their first 16 games, beating Air Force, Eastern Kentucky, ABU, Hawaii and Incarnate Word. The Lions are 3-2 since then with losses to Houston Christian and SE Louisiana. 

Matched up against SE Louisiana on Saturday, Texas A&M-Commerce went into the locker room with a 30-27 lead. The Lions saw their lead evaporate with a 52-43 deficit from there in a 79-73 loss. JJ Romer Rosario led the team on 16 points in the defeat. 

Lamar Cardinals 

Over on the Lamar side, they won just four of their first 16 over St. Thomas, HTU, Lindenwood and Our Lady of the Lake. The Cardinals are 2-2 since then, beating Nichols State and Texas A&M-CC in that time. 

In the Incarnate Word game back on Saturday, the Cardinals were outscored 33-21 by halftime. Lamar came back with a 43-37 advantage in the second but lost 70-64. Nate Calmese led the team with his 16 points. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’m going to stick with Texas A&M-Commerce. Granted, there’s not a ton of intrigue here as both teams are struggling right now. That said, it should be a fairly competitive game. The Lions have hit 73 or more points in three of their last five outings, going 3-2 in that time. Texas A&M-Commerce probably should have beaten SE Louisiana as well, but they got bogged down in the second half. As for Lamar, they’re scoring fairly consistently over the last five games, with 68 or more points in three of those. I like the Cardinals to really push the Lions in this one; should be a fun game.
