Liberty vs Lipscomb 1/2/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Lipscomb Bisons and the Liberty Flames meet Monday in college basketball action from Liberty Arena. Lipscomb enters this one at 8-6 overall. The Bisons lost to Stetson in their last game. Lipscomb went 4-2 over their first six games, losing to only South Dakota and Notre Dame. It’s been a 4-4 run since then with wins over Navy, Tervecca Nazarene, Tennessee Tech and Louisville in that time. 

On Friday versus Stetson, the Bisons kept the pace the whole way and eventually went to overtime. Lipscomb was outscored 17-11 in the extra period and lost 86-80, though. Jacob Ognacevic led the team with 16 points and eight rebounds. 

Over on the Liberty side, they went 3-3 in their first six with wins over Regent VA, NC Central and Bradley. The Flames are 7-1 since then with wins over Delaware State, MD Eastern Shore, VA Lynchburg, Bryant, Grambling State, MACU and Bellarmine. 

Matched up against Bellarmine on Thursday, the Flames posted 35 points in the first and 35 more in the second during a 70-53 win. Darius McGhee was tops on 24 points with four rebounds and four assists. Kyle Rode added 22 points as well. 

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Liberty here. The Flames are on a nice 8-1 run over their last nine outings, and they’ve scored 70 or more in eight straight games. Liberty seems to be comfortable right now and they’re playing well versus comparable teams. As for Lipscomb, they’ve scored 75 or more points in three straight games but they’ve gone just 1-2 in that stretch. I like this one to be another fairly high-scoring game on both sides, with Liberty powering out a cover.
