North Florida lost seven of their first eight games this year, picking up a lone win over Webber International. Since then it’s been a 3-4 run for the Ospreys. They’ve lost to Florida Atlantic, Florida, Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson in that stretch.
In the Stetson game, the Ospreys outscored the Hatters 37-32 in the second half to force overtime but eventually lost 68-66. Top scorer Jose Placer put up 21 points, and both Carter Hendricksen and Jadyn Parker added 11 points apiece.
Over on the Liberty side, they lost three of their first four games this year, then hit a win streak versus Bethune-Cookman, MD Eastern Shore, Missouri and Delaware State. Since then it’s been a 5-3 run with wins over Carver, East Carolina, Northern Iowa, Boyce and Stetson.
Matched up against Stetson on January 4, the Flames posted 37 points in the first half and 38 more from there in a 75-59 victory. Both Shiloh Robinson and Darius McGhee notched 16 points apiece, combining for five assists and eight boards.
The Flames are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 at home and 4-1 ATS in their last five Tuesday games. Liberty is 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Meanwhile, the Ospreys are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight overall. The under is 3-1-1 in North Florida’s last five overall.
PICK: I’m sticking with Liberty here. The Flames suffered a couple of close losses to Stanford and BYU over the last handful of games, but overall the team is playing well. Liberty has hit 74 or more points in each of their last seven outings, so they shouldn’t have much trouble scoring here.
As for North Florida, they’ve hit 67 points or fewer in four of their last six games. I like the Ospreys to put up a decent total in this one, but I don’t think they’ll be able to keep up cover-wise.
