Long Beach State vs CSU Fullerton 3/12/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Cal State Fullerton Titans and the Long Beach State Beach meet Saturday in Big West Tournament college basketball action from Dollar Loan Center. Cal State Fullerton is 20-10 on the season. The Titans beat Hawaii in tournament activity Friday. As for Long Beach State, they’re 20-11 this year and beat UC Santa Barbara in their Friday tournament game. Cal State Fullerton stumbled to a 4-5 start this year but were able to work their way up to 17-8 by late February. The Titans took recent consecutive losses to UC San Diego and UC Riverside before winning three straight over UC Davis (twice) and Hawaii. 

In the Friday tournament matchup versus Hawaii, CSU Fullerton held a 28-21 edge going into the second half. The Titans posted a 30-25 run from there in a 58-46 win. Leading scorer Damari Milstead put up 18 points, and EJ Anosike doubled on 16 points and 13 boards. 

Over on the Long Beach State side, they skidded to a rough 4-9 start this year. The Beach have only lost two games since January 8, though. Long Beach State is currently on a four-game win streak over UC Davis, UC Riverside, CSU Bakersfield and UC Santa Barbara. 

Matched up against UC Santa Barbara on Friday, the Beach were down 32-37 at halftime. Long Beach State hit a 35-27 run in the second half to secure the 67-64 comeback victory. Tops in scoring was Colin Slater with 30 points, three rebounds and three assists. 

PICK: I’m probably sticking with Long Beach State here. The Beach started a little slow in the Friday game versus UCSB but they get credit for powering out the win. LBSU has been quite the consistent scoring team lately and shouldn’t have too much trouble posting offense in this matchup either. The Beach have hit 68 or more points in 15 of their last 16 games. 

As for the Titans, they’ve only seen LBSU once this year, a 71-61 road loss back on February 8. CSU Fullerton has been doing well defensively lately, but they’re going to need a big effort on that side of the ball to slow down the Beach; I think LBSU takes this one.
