The UC Riverside Highlanders and the Long Beach State Beach meet Saturday in college basketball action from Walter Pyramid. UC Riverside is fresh off a matchup versus Cal State Fullerton on Thursday. In that game the Highlanders eked out a three-point win. As for Long Beach State, they played UC Davis in their Thursday game. The Beach ended up winning by three as well. UC Riverside has had a choppy year so far, but they’ve managed to stay on the right side of .500 for most of the way. The Highlanders had a recent three-game win streak over CSU Bakersfield, Cal Poly and CSU Northridge snapped with a loss to UC Santa Barbara.
On Thursday versus CSU Fullerton, the Highlanders carried a 36-36 tie into the second half. UC Riverside scored 39 points from there in a 75-72 win. Tops in scoring were Zyon Pullin and Will Tattersall, each with 15 points and a combined 10 assists.
Over on the Long Beach State side, they were a rough 4-9 back in early January but then hit a nice 11-game win streak. The Beach went just 1-2 over their next three games with a win over UC San Diego between losses to UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine.
Matched up against UC Davis on Thursday, the Beach trailed by seven points at halftime. Long Beach State hit a 43-33 run in the second for a 68-65 comeback win. Jadon Jones led the team on his 21 points and five rebounds.
The Beach are 5-1 ATS in their last six Saturday games and 4-0 ATS in the last four after an ATS loss. LBSU is 23-9 ATS in their last 32 overall.
Meanwhile, the Highlanders are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 2-6 ATS in their last eight after an ATS win. The over is 5-1 in UC Riverside’s last six Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Long Beach State here. The Beach have done a pretty good job on offense lately. They’ve hit 68 or more points in 14 straight games, including a 68-62 road win the last time these teams met up back on January 27. UC Riverside is scoring well themselves lately so it wouldn’t be surprising to see both teams above the 70-point mark here. Should be a good one, but I think LBSU has the inside track on a cover.
