The North Carolina A&T Aggies and the Longwood Lancers meet Friday in Big South Tournament college basketball action from Bojangles’ Coliseum. North Carolina A&T is 12-19 overall this year. The Aggies beat Radford in their last game. As for Longwood, they’re sitting at 23-6 and coming off a win over Campbell. North Carolina A&T started out the year at a rough 4-9, but then hit a nice run in January that nearly got them back to even. The Aggies are just 4-10 in their last 14 games though; they’ve beaten only UNC Asheville, Charleston Southern, Longwood and Radford in that time.
In the Radford game on Wednesday, the Aggies blew a 41-27 halftime lead and needed overtime to decide the game. North Carolina A&T ended up with a 78-71 win at game’s end. Tops in scoring was Marcus Watson on 18 points and 11 boards.
Over on the Longwood side, they started out a shaky 7-5 this year but have only lost one game since December 22 (against North Carolina A&T on February 12). The last five games have all been wins over High Point (twice), Hampton, Radford and Campbell.
On Saturday versus Campbell, the Lancers were down 22-26 heading into halftime. Longwood went on a 38-29 run from there in a comeback win 60-55. Leading the way was DeShaun Wade with 20 points in 33 minutes of work.
The Lancers are 5-0 ATS in their last five Friday games and the under is 8-2 in their last 10 neutral-site games. The under is 7-1 in Longwood’s last eight Friday games.
Meanwhile, the Aggies are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five neutral-site games and 4-0-1 ATS in their last five Friday games. The under is 6-1 in NC A&T’s last seven Friday games.
PICK: I’m going to try Longwood here. The Lancers took a while to get going against Campbell in their last outing, but overall they’ve looked solid during this five-game win streak. Adding another layer of intrigue to this matchup is the fact that North Carolina A&T won the last game 70-62 back on February 12. It was a rare offensive dud for Longwood and I don’t think the Lancers will have two bad games in a row.
