Charlotte started out the year on a decent pace, going 12-6 over their first 18 outings. The 49ers hit a 2-5 run over their next seven games with losses to Middle Tennessee, Rice, FIU, Florida Atlantic and North Texas with wins over Western Kentucky and UTEP otherwise.
In the Thursday rematch versus Western Kentucky, Charlotte was up 35-28 at the half but ended up needing overtime to power out a 68-64 victory. Leading scorer Aly Khalifa put up 24 points with eight rebounds in the win.
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
Over on the Louisiana Tech side, they managed to post a 10-8 run across their first 18 games this year. The Bulldogs limped to a 3-4 record over their next seven with losses to Middle Tennessee, UAB, FIU and Florida Atlantic in that time.
Matched up against North Texas on Thursday, the Bulldogs came out of the break with a 33-29 deficit. Louisiana Tech didn’t get any closer in an eventual 72-62 defeat. Keaston Willis was the leading team scorer on 18 points in 38 minutes.

I might still take a stab on Louisiana Tech here. Probably staying away, though. The last time these teams met up back on New Year’s Eve, Charlotte powered out a 68-66 win at Halton Arena. Louisiana Tech has been a mixed bag since then and they’re sitting on a three-game losing streak. Charlotte hasn’t been great lately themselves with a current 2-4 run. I like the Bulldogs to ride the wave of a home matchup here and power out a cover. Should be a pretty good matchup regardless, though.
