Georgia Southern went 8-6 over their first 14 games this year, losing to Wofford, Georgia Tech, Morehead State, Mercer, Little Rock and Arkansas State. After more losses to South Alabama, Coastal Carolina and App State the Eagles managed a win over UL Monroe.
In Thursday’s matchup versus UL Monroe, the Eagles posted a 25-22 edge in the first half and a 25-23 run from there in a 50-45 win. The team’s only double-digit scorer was Cam Bryant on 12 points and eight rebounds.
Over on the Louisiana side, they posted an 8-5 run to start the year, falling to Indiana, Marshall, Jackson State, LA Tech and Houston along the way. Since then it’s been a 1-4 run with losses to UT Arlington, Texas State, South Alabama and Georgia State.
Matched up against Georgia State on Thursday, the Cajuns were down by one point heading into halftime. Louisiana didn’t end up any closer in a 68-64 defeat. Kentrell Garnett was tops on 17 points, and Jordan Brown added 12 points and six boards.
The Cajuns are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four Saturday games and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 overall. Louisiana is 6-2 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 1-4 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall. The over is 4-1 in Georgia Southern’s last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Louisiana. Neither one of these teams has been playing all that great lately though, so I’m probably staying away. That said, the Cajuns have had some near misses during this 1-4 stretch, and they’re not scoring too badly these days. Louisiana has hit 68 or more points in five of their last six games. Provided they don’t get bogged down in a defensive struggle here, I think the Cajuns have the inside track on a cover.
