Louisiana vs Southern Miss 1/5/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns meet Thursday in college basketball action from the Cajundome. Southern Miss comes into this one at 13-2 overall. The Eagles beat Appalachian State in their last game. As for Louisiana, they’re 10-4 on the year after a loss to Old Dominion. Southern Miss managed to go 8-0 to kick off the season before taking a loss to Northwestern State. The Eagles won three more before a loss to UNLV, and since have beaten Troy and Appalachian State. 

In the Appalachian State game, the Eagles were down 30-33 by halftime. Southern Miss stormed back on a 46-37 run and took the comeback with 76-70. Austin Crowley led the team on 30 points and five rebounds.

Over on the Louisiana side, they were 10-1 to start out the year, falling to only Drake on November 26. After losses to Texas and Coastal Carolina, the Cajuns took another loss at the hands of Old Dominion on Saturday. 

In the Old Dominion game, the Cajuns took a 38-24 deficit into the break. Louisiana posted a 42-32 edge in the second half but still lost 70-66. Jordan Brown posted 16 points with 11 boards, and Greg Williams added 16 points. 

PICK: I’m going to stick with Southern Miss. The Eagles posted a nice comeback win over Appalachian State in their last game, scoring 76 points along the way. That was the highest points total in a three-game stretch for Southern Miss. Overall the Eagles have scored pretty well this year and they should keep that run going here. As for Louisiana, they’ve lost three straight to some pretty good teams, however they’re still scoring pretty well themselves. I like this one to be a higher-scoring game with Southern Miss sticking out the cover (and maybe the win as well).
