The Texas-Arlington Mavericks and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns meet Saturday in college basketball action from the Cajundome. TX-Arlington is coming off a Thursday matchup versus LA-Monroe. The Mavericks ended up falling by three points. As for Louisiana, they played Texas State in their Thursday matchup. In that one, the Cajuns lost by nine. TX-Arlington managed an 8-8 run over their first 16 games this year, but things have gotten tougher since then. The Mavericks hit a 2-6 stretch with losses to Georgia Southern, UL Monroe, Arkansas State, Little Rock, Texas State and App State from there.

On Thursday versus UL Monroe, the Mavericks had a two-point deficit heading into the second half and couldn’t catch up in an eventual 74-71 defeat. Leading scorer David Azore posted 29 points with six rebounds and three assists.

Over on the Louisiana side, they were 8-5 in their first 13 outings this year. The Cajuns then similarly hit a rough stretch with a 2-6 run. The losses in that time were to UT Arlington, Texas State, South Alabama, Georgia State, Georgia Southern and Arkansas State.

Matched up against Texas State on Thursday, the Cajuns were outscored 36-41 in the first half and 37-41 in the second during an 82-73 defeat. Kobe Julien led the team with his 22 points and five rebounds in 31 minutes of work.

The Cajuns are 1-4 ATS in the last five at home and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. The under is 4-1 in Louisiana’s last five at home.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks are 7-15 ATS in the last 22 road games and 2-5 ATS in the last seven overall. UT Arlington is 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Louisiana, but probably staying away from this one. Neither team has been doing all that well lately. The last time these two squads met up back on January 13, the Mavericks secured an 83-73 home win. Louisiana hasn’t scored all that well since then with fewer than 70 points in five of their last eight games. That said, I think the Cajuns can find enough points at home to manage a cover. I’m not touching this one, though.
