The Texas Arlington Mavericks and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns meet Thursday in Sun Belt Tournament college basketball action from Pensacola Bay Center. Texas Arlington enters this one at 11-17 overall. The Mavericks lost to South Alabama in their last game. As for Louisiana, they’re sitting at 13-14 and coming off a loss to Georgia State. Texas Arlington last saw the .500 mark back on January 13, but they’ve only been able to win three games since then. The Mavericks are 2-3 in their last five games, taking losses to Arkansas State, Troy and South Alabama in their last trio.

In the matchup versus South Alabama, the Mavericks were down 23-30 by halftime. Texas Arlington was outscored 29-32 from there in a 62-52 loss. Tops in scoring was David Azore with 22 points and four rebounds.

Over on the Cajuns side, they were 8-5 back on January 6, but then hit a rough 2-8 stretch. The Cajuns would win three straight over UL Monroe (twice) and Georgia Southern, but lost their last matchup versus Georgia State.

On Friday in the Georgia State game, the Cajuns were up 35-24 at the break. Louisiana was drilled 23-41 in the second half for a rough 65-58 loss, though. Greg Williams was the leading scorer on 18 points and three boards off the bench.

The Cajuns are 1-5 ATS in the last six Thursday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss. Louisiana is 1-6 ATS in their last seven overall.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Thursday games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss. UT Arlington is 2-5 ATS in the last seven overall.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Louisiana in this one. The Cajuns need to bounce back from an ugly second half in the Georgia State game, though. Louisiana did have a good run going in the three games prior; they hit 78 or more points in each of those outings.

As for TX-Arlington, they’ve had it rough themselves with 53 or fewer points in three straight. The Mavericks did win the last time these teams met up, 80-77 on the road. This is looking like a pretty good matchup, and I think the Cajuns can power out the cover.
