The Bellarmine Knights and the Louisville Cardinals meet Wednesday in college basketball action from KFC Yum! Center. Bellarmine lost to West Virginia in their last outing, dropping the Knights to 2-5 overall. As for Louisville, they pulled back to .500 on the year with an overtime win over New Mexico State on Sunday. Here’s our Bellarmine vs Louisville prediction.
The Knights lost four of their first five games this year, falling to Washington, Kansas State, Chattanooga and Morehead State in that time. Bellarmine was able to get their second victory of the season versus Midway 77-56, shooting 41.0 percent from the field with 38 rebounds and 19 team assists.
In their latest matchup versus West Virginia, the Knights fell back into the loss column. Bellarmine was down 36-30 by halftime and lost 62-58 despite a 28-26 advantage from there. Leading the scoring was Peter Suder with his 19 points, three rebounds and three assists in 31 minutes of action.
Over on the Louisville side, they kicked off the year at 2-1 with victories versus UMBC and Coppin State. The Cardinals would then record consecutive losses to Texas and Indiana, though. Louisville shot just 35.7 percent from the field versus the Hoosiers with a 39-35 rebounding deficit in the 74-66 result.
The Cardinals were able to get back into the win column versus New Mexico State in their last outing, but it took overtime to do it. Louisville outscored the Aggies 17-11 in the extra period for a 90-84 win. Leading the team was Skyy Clark with 29 points and four boards. JJ Traynor added 20 points and nine rebounds off the bench in the winning effort.
ANDREW’S FREE LOUISVILLE VS BELLARMINE PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Louisville here. The Cardinals were highly permissive on defense versus the Aggies in their last appearance though, so they’ve got some improvements to make. Louisville gave up 58.3 percent from the field in that one, but also had a solid 15-8 edge on the offensive glass that aided the cause. The Cardinals have generally scored pretty well overall this season with 71 or more points in four of six outings.
As for Bellarmine, they didn’t play too badly against West Virginia despite shooting just 33.8 percent from the floor. The Knights have been at 64 or fewer points in four of their seven games this year, but to be fair some of those came versus stiff competition. All things considered though, I think the Cardinals have the cover here if they play well.
