The Drake Bulldogs and the Loyola Ramblers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Gentile Arena. Drake is 18-9 this year so far and coming off a win over Evansville. Drake began their year at 10-5 through 15 games. The Bulldogs would then hit a nice 7-1 run that took them into February. Since then it’s been three losses to Northern Iowa, Missouri State and Bradley before another win over Evansville.
Matched up against Evansville on Wednesday, the Bulldogs stormed out to a 47-15 lead after the first half. Drake cruised from there toward an eventual 73-51 blowout win. Tucker Devries led the team with his 16 points and three boards.
Over on the Loyola side, they lost consecutive games to Michigan State and Auburn back in November but haven’t lost two in a row since. The Ramblers fell to Bradley on February 9 and since have beaten Northern Iowa and Valparaiso.
On Wednesday in the Valparaiso game, the Ramblers were down 30-36 by halftime. Loyola hit a 41-33 run in the second for a nice comeback win 71-69. Chris Knight topped the team with his 20 points and seven rebounds in the victory.
The Ramblers are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six at home and 0-5-2 ATS in their last seven Saturday games. Loyola is 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine overall.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 4-16-1 ATS in their last 21 Saturday games and 2-10 ATS in their last 12 road games. Drake is 7-21-1 ATS in their last 29 overall.
PICK: I’m going to try Loyola here. The Ramblers played it tight against Valparaiso in their last outing, but to their credit Loyola powered out the win. This 4-1 stretch has been good for Loyola; they’ve hit 71 or more points in each of the four wins.
The last time these teams met up back on January 30, Drake pulled off a nice 77-68 win at home. With the way Loyola has been playing over the subsequent five games I think the Ramblers are primed for a revenge cover. Should be a great matchup and a fun one to watch.
