Loyola Marymount vs Tulsa 12/21/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane and the Loyola Marymount Lions meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Gersten Pavilion. Tulsa enters this one at 4-6 overall. The Hurricane beat MS Valley State in their last matchup. As for LMU, they’re 9-4 overall after a win over Cleveland State. Tulsa went just 2-6 over their first eight games. The losses in that stretch were to Oregon State, Charlotte, Murray State, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts and Detroit. Since then it’s been wins over Central Michigan and MS Valley State. 

In the matchup versus the Delta Devils back on Friday, Tulsa was up 29-25 going into the second half. The Hurricane hit a 37-26 run from there and won 66-51. Brandon Betson was tops on the team with 15 points and two assists. 

Over on the LMU side, they were 4-2 over their first six games with losses to only UC Riverside and UC Irvine. The Lions have gone 5-2 since then, beating Morgan State, Bellarmine, Nevada, Grand Canyon and Cleveland State. 

On Sunday versus Cleveland State, LMU didn’t have much trouble and got off to a 40-24 halftime lead. The Lions closed with 30 more points and won 70-59. Both Michael Graham (13 rebounds) and Cameron Shelton scored 15 points apiece. 

PICK: I’ll probably stick with LMU. The Lions posted a nice well-rounded effort against a mediocre Cleveland State team in their last outing; six players scored at least eight points in the victory. Loyola Marymount has been a little sketchy scoring-wise lately, however. They haven’t passed 70 points in any of the last four games (but they’ve gone 3-1 in that time). That said, the Lions should have some scoring opportunities versus Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane have given up some fairly sizable points totals to comparable teams this year.
