Lafayette Leopards
Lafayette started out their season on a pretty rough 6-14 clip. The Leopards are 3-4 in their last seven, beating Loyola MD, Holy Cross and Boston U alongside losses to Lehigh, Colgate, Navy and Lehigh again.
In the Boston U matchup on Saturday, the Leopards blew a 33-27 halftime lead and had to go to overtime. Lafayette scored 12 more points in the extra period for a 69-65 win. CJ Fulton was the top scorer on the team with 20 points and seven assists.
Loyola MD Greyhounds
Over on the Loyola MD side, they went just 7-13 in their first 20 outings of the year. The Greyhounds have won just two of seven since then, losing to Boston U, Lafayette, Colgate, Boston U again and Army in that time.
Loyola went into halftime with a 46-40 deficit back on Saturday versus Lehigh. The Greyhounds stormed back on a 51-36 run from there and won it 91-82. Deon Pery posted 28 points, and Alonso Faure doubled on 16 points and 10 rebounds.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I suppose I’ll lean Loyola MD here. I could go either way in this one, though; it should be a fun matchup. In any case, the Greyhounds are coming off a nice second half in the comeback win over a decent Lehigh team on Saturday. It was a much-needed lift that stopped a three-game losing streak. The Greyhounds lost 62-46 the last time these teams met back on January 26 at Kirby Sports Center, so there’s some extra motivation in this rematch for Loyola MD. I like the Greyhounds to play better at home and take the cover/win.
