The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks and the LSU Tigers meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Pete Maravich Assembly Center. UL-Monroe had a disappointing campaign in the 2020-21 season, going 7-18 overall and 5-13 in Sun Belt Conference play. The Warhawks were left in the basement of the West Division, two games behind Little Rock in fifth place.
The Warhawks came into conference play at 2-5 last year and managed a couple of wins over Arkansas State before a January losing streak that lasted nearly a month. After two losses to Texas State to finish off the regular season, UL-Monroe lost to South Alabama 80-72 in the Sun Belt Tournament.
Over on the LSU side, they posted a pretty solid result in a crowded SEC with a 19-10 record overall and a 11-6 conference mark. The Tigers would finish in third place in the standings, just behind Alabama and Arkansas.
LSU managed a couple of wins over Ole Miss 76-73 and Arkansas 78-71 in the SEC Tournament, but ultimately fell to Alabama in a rough Championship Game 80-79. In the NCAA Tournament, the Tigers took out St. Bonaventure 76-61 before losing versus Michigan 86-78 in the Second Round.
The Warhawks are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall. ULM is 0-4 ATS in the last four Tuesday games as well.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five home games and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven overall. LSU is 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine Tuesday games as well.
PICK: I’m going to stay on LSU here. The Tigers certainly have their work cut out for them this year; the SEC is once again crowded and it’s going to be tough to make any headway in the standings. Still, with high-impact players like Darius Days and Xavier Pinson in the mix the Tigers should be competitive in most matchups. Most pundits are picking LSU to finish in the middle of the SEC pack this year, so a lot of things are going to have to go according to plan for the Tigers if they want to get into the big tournament. Should be a fun season.
