Northwestern State managed just one win in their first nine games this year. The Demons lost to Oklahoma, Tulsa, SMU, LA Tech, LA-Monroe, Stephen F. Austin, Houston and LA-Monroe again before a win over Dallas Christian.
In the Saturday victory, the Demons scored 50 points in the first half and cruised to an eventual 89-67 blowout result. Leading scorer Jalen King put up 17 points with three rebounds, and Stavros Polatoglou added 10 boards with six points.
Over on the LSU side, they’ve had a couple of minor scares along the way but the team’s looking good at 9-0. The Tigers have taken out LA-Monroe, Texas State, Liberty, McNeese, Belmont, Penn State, Wake Forest, Ohio and Georgia Tech along the way.
In the Georgia Tech matchup, the Tigers were down 34-30 at halftime. LSU outscored the Jackets 39-19 in the second half in a 69-53 win. Tari Eason led the team with 23 points, six rebounds and one assist.
The Tigers are 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 at home and 6-1 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win. LSU is 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 as a favorite.
Meanwhile, the Demons are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games and 1-5 ATS in their last six overall. The over is 4-1 in Northwestern State’s last five overall.
PICK: I’m going with LSU. Probably not touching this one, though; the line is going to be crazy thick everywhere. The Tigers got off to a slow start against Georgia Tech in their last game, but eventually figured it out and took the big win. LSU shot 39.3 percent in that one with 41 rebounds and 13 team assists. Northwestern State probably won’t be able to hang around this one too long, and it’s going to come down to how large a margin of victory LSU will come away with. I think the Tigers are more likely to get there on a cover than not.
