The Brown Bears and the Maine Black Bears meet Sunday in college basketball action from Memorial Gym. Brown is 2-7 this year and has lost consecutive games, most recently versus Bryant on Friday. As for Maine, they’re 5-4 overall and coming off a win over Holy Cross. Let’s get into our Brown vs. Maine prediction. Brown Bears 

The Bears have managed just a pair of wins during a tough season so far, taking out Rhode Island College and Kansas City. Outside of that, Brown lost to Colgate, Loyola MD, New Hampshire, USC, Delaware and Ohio in their first eight games. In the loss to Ohio, the Bears allowed 51.8 percent shooting from the field and coughed up 18 turnovers. 

Brown’s bad luck continued in their latest matchup versus Bryant. The Bears had a three-point lead heading into the second half but ultimately fell 66-69 after a 36-30 run from there. Tops in scoring was Kino Lilly with 19 points and five rebounds. Felix Kloman added 16 points with six boards as well. 

Maine Black Bears 

Over on the Maine side, they managed a .500 run over their first eight outings this year. The Black Bears beat Maine-Presque Isle, Northwestern State, Presbyterian and South Florida in that time, otherwise falling to Charlotte, Merrimack, North Florida and Columbia. Maine managed just 26 points in the second half of a 75-56 outcome versus the Lions. 

The Black Bears were able to get above the even mark in their last game versus Holy Cross. Maine jumped out to a 37-29 edge by the break and cruised on 35 more points in a 72-57 win. Leading the team was Kellen Tynes with 26 points. Peter Filipovity added a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. Maine is 5-4 in the American East and is one of six teams with five wins, including New Hampshire. 

ANDREW’S FREE BROWN VS MAINE PREDICTION 

I’ll stick with Maine. The Black Bears have a bit of much-needed momentum after beating Holy Cross in their last outing. Maine shot a tepid 40.7 percent from the field and got out-rebounded 32-31 in that one, though. It’s been a pretty erratic season scoring-wise for the Black Bears, but they’ve hit 70 or more points in each of their wins. Maine shouldn’t have too many issues putting up points here either; Brown has given up 69 or more in all but two games so far.
