Charleston Southern posted a 2-2 run over their first two games this year, beating JWU-Charlotte and Bob Jones in that span. Since then it’s been a 1-5 stretch with losses to Georgia Tech, Clemson, Kennesaw State, Jacksonville and Tennessee State.
In the Tennessee State matchup back on Thursday, the Buccaneers had a 41-34 edge at the break but were outscored 44-34 from there in a 78-75 loss. Tahlik Chavez was the only team player in double-figures with 17 points and three rebounds.
Over on the Manhattan side, they went 6-1 over their first seven games with wins over Mville, Fordham, North Alabama, Liberty, Fairleigh Dickinson and Siena. Since then it’s been losses to Quinnipiac and Utah.
Facing Utah back on December 11, the Jaspers were down 17 at the break and things only got worse in the second half during a 96-62 blowout loss. Romar Reid was tops on 15 points and three boards. Josh Roberts added 11 points and seven rebounds as well.
The Buccaneers are 1-6 ATS in their last six as a favorite and 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss. The over is 10-4 in Charleston Southern’s last 14 overall.
Meanwhile, the Jaspers are 0-8 ATS in their last eight Monday games and 6-2-1 ATS in the last nine neutral-site games. The under is 5-1 in Manhattan’s last six Monday games.
PICK: I’m likely going to try Manhattan here. The Jaspers have had a couple of rough games in their last pair, but they really only had one bad half against Quinnipiac and Manhattan wasn’t going to keep up with a solid Utah team regardless. Still, when the matchup is right the Jaspers have played pretty well so far.
As for Charleston Southern, they’ve been below 60 points in four of their last five games and really need to get their offense in gear. I think we’ll see hints of that here in an eventual Manhattan cover.
