The Quinnipiac Bobcats and the Manhattan Jaspers meet Sunday in college basketball action from Draddy Gymnasium. Quinnipiac is 3-4 on the young season and coming off a loss to Saint Peter’s on Friday. As for the Jaspers, they’re 6-1 so far this year and beat Siena in their Friday matchup. Quinnipiac lost to Maryland in their opener this year, but then hit a win streak versus Western New England, Holy Cross and Central CT State. Since then the Bobcats have lost three straight to New Hampshire, Brown and Saint Peter’s.
In the Saint Peter’s matchup on Friday, Quinnipiac scored just 29 points in the first half and 30 more from there in a 69-59 defeat. Matt Balanc topped the team on 20 points and four boards, while Kevin Marfo doubled up with 13 points and 20 rebounds.
Over on the Manhattan side, they beat Manhattanville and Fordham in their first pair before a loss to Old Dominion. The Jaspers rebounded to beat North Alabama, Liberty, Fairleigh Dickinson and Siena in their next four.
Back on Friday in the Siena game, the Jaspers had to rally from a four-point halftime deficit and force overtime. Manhattan eventually prevailed 77-72. Anthony Nelson was tops with 24 points, and Jose Perez added 23 points with four rebounds.
The Jaspers are 0-3-1 ATS in their last four after an ATS win and 0-4 ATS in the last four Sunday games. Manhattan is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 after a straight-up win.
Meanwhile, the Bobcats are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 0-5 ATS in their last five overall. Quinnipiac is 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Manhattan. That said, the Jaspers have been living dangerously during this four-game win streak. Three of the victories during that time have come by five points or fewer, and four of Manhattan’s six wins overall have been by six points or less.
As for Quinnipiac, they looked pretty flat against Saint Peter’s and have scored just 120 combined points over their last two games. If Manhattan can get to scoring early here I think they’ll be okay.
