The Fairfield Stags and the Marist Red Foxes meet Sunday in college basketball action from McCann Arena. Fairfield is currently 8-10 on the year and coming off a loss to Monmouth. As for Marist, they’re sitting at 8-8 so far. The Foxes beat Monmouth in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Fairfield posted an 8-3 run to begin the year, losing to Providence, Boston College and Loyola MD. It’s been seven straight losses since then however. The Stags have dropped to UMass, Wagner, Marist, Siena, Iona, Quinnipiac and Monmouth in that stretch.

On Thursday versus Monmouth, the Stags had a 33-31 edge at halftime but fell behind from there in an eventual 61-58 defeat. Jake Wojcik was the top scorer on 15 points, and Jesus Cruz added 14 points and five boards off the bench.

Over on the Marist side, it’s been a choppy year so far. The Foxes have struggled to stay above .500 for most of the way. In the last three games it’s been a 1-2 run with losses to Rider and Siena before the victory over Monmouth.

Matched up against Monmouth last weekend, the Foxes posted a nice 46-22 edge by halftime and finished with an 84-48 blowout victory. Jay Ituka went off for 28 points and seven boards. Ricardo Wright added 24 points and three rebounds during the win as well.

The Foxes are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 overall and 5-2 ATS in the last seven after an ATS win. The under is 5-1 in Marist’s last six overall.

Meanwhile, the Stags are 1-6 ATS in the last seven overall and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games. The under is 61-29 in Fairfield’s last 90 overall.

PICK: I’m going to try Marist in this one. Probably staying away, though; a lot of different things could happen here. The last time these teams met up back on January 7 at Webster Bank Arena, Marist took a 60-51 victory. Fairfield struggled offensively in that one, shooting just 28.3 percent from the floor and 6-of-31 (19.4 percent) from 3-point range. The Foxes will most certainly have a better time shooting in this rematch, but I think Marist can keep the pace and find a cover. Should be an interesting matchup.
