Fairfield Stags

The Stags started out the season on a rough 1-6 stretch, but they’ve only lost consecutive games once (versus Quinnipiac and Iona) since then. Fairfield is 6-1 in their last seven games with wins over Manhattan, Rider, Saint Peter’s, Mount St. Mary’s, Quinnipiac and Siena.

In the Siena matchup on Sunday, the Stags came out of halftime with a 33-25 edge. Fairfield kept it rolling in the second half on a 55-39 run and cruised to the blowout win 88-64. Jalen Leach topped the team with 21 points, nine boards and four assists in the victory.

Marist Red Foxes

Over on the Foxes’ side, their year started on a 7-2 run before a rough 3-7 stretch that spanned all of January. Marist would recover over the next five games on wins versus Saint Peter’s, Siena, Rider, Canisius and Manhattan. The Red Foxes took a loss to Saint Peter’s in their last game, though.

In the road rematch versus the Peacocks on Sunday, the Red Foxes held a 38-30 lead in the locker room. Marist came back with a rough 39-22 deficit in the second half however, ultimately losing 69-60. Jackson Price was the lead scorer on his 12 points with four rebounds and three assists.

ANDREW’S FREE FAIRFIELD VS MARIST PREDICTION

I’ll stay with Fairfield. The Stags are on a roll across their last three games and didn’t have too many issues with a struggling Siena team in their latest outing. In that one Fairfield posted 49.1 percent shooting from the field with 37 rebounds and 16 team assists. That makes 85 or more points in three straight games for the Stags.

These teams last saw each other on January 7 in an 82-61 home victory for Fairfield. The Stags would cruise most of the way in that one, eventually shooting 46.7 percent overall with 36 rebounds and 17 team assists. Marist should play better in the home rematch, but Fairfield may still have the inside track on a potential cover/win.
