Monmouth kicked off the year with a nice 10-2 run over their first dozen games. The only losses the Hawks took during that stretch were to Charlotte and St. John’s. The Hawks have taken losses in their last pair of games to Hofstra and Saint Peter’s, however.
Matched up against Saint Peter’s on Friday, the Hawks fell behind 33-24 by halftime. Monmouth got better from there but still lost 67-62. Leading scorer George Papas put up 16 points with six rebounds, and Shavar Reynolds added 11 points.
Over on the Marist side, they managed a winning record of 6-5 though their first 11 games. The Foxes lost to American, Princeton, Army, Iona and Navy in that time. It’s been a 1-3 run since then with losses to Iona, Rider and Siena.
In the Siena game on Friday, the Foxes had a comfortable 38-24 lead at the break. The Foxes were outscored 43-22 in the second half and ended up with a 67-60 loss. Leading scorer Jao Ituka put up 20 points with five rebounds and two assists.
The Red Foxes are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 overall and 6-1 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss. The over is 5-2 in Marist’s last seven at home.
Meanwhile, the Hawks are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 road games and 8-0 ATS in their last eight Sunday games. Monmouth is 12-2 ATS in their last 14 overall.
PICK: I’m going to try Monmouth I suppose. This is something of a tough call, though. The Hawks didn’t play all that well against Saint Peter’s in their last outing, and they’ve now lost consecutive games after a pretty hot start. That said, the Hawks are still scoring pretty well in each game; they’ve hit 69 or more in five of their last seven outings. As for Marist, they had an ugly second half against Siena and have been pretty spotty lately scoring-wise. Monmouth should have control in this one if the Hawks play to their capabilities.
