The Siena Saints and the Marist Red Foxes meet Friday in college basketball action from McCann Arena. Here’s a Marist vs Siena prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Marist vs Siena pick.

Siena Saints Betting Preview

Siena has had a couple of pretty good stretches of play so far this year. That said, the Saints have mostly been struggling otherwise, and it’s led to a sub-.500 record overall. Siena beat Brown, Bryant, and American University out of the gate, then fell to Albany, Xavier, Miami Ohio, and Jacksonville in the next four outings. A 4-3 stretch ensued featuring wins over Bucknell, Canisius, Cornell, and Manhattan mixed with losses to Niagara, St. Bonaventure, and Holy Cross. The last six games have been a 2-4 run for the Saints. The two wins came versus Sacred Heart and Mount St. Mary’s in that time. Otherwise, it was losses to Iona, Quinnipiac, Merrimack, and Iona again, giving the Saints a 9-11 overall record through 20 games.

In the Iona road rematch over the weekend, the Saints went into the second half with a 34-31 deficit. Siena was outscored 38-37 the rest of the way, resulting in a 72-68 loss in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Brendan Coyle with 22 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Gavin Doty added 20 points with four rebounds and two steals, while Justice Shoats also finished in double-figures with 10 points, four assists, four steals, and two rebounds.

Marist Red Foxes Betting Preview

Over on the Marist side, they’ve been a highly consistent team so far this year. The Red Foxes have yet to lose consecutive games, so they’ve recovered from defeat quite well. Marist’s first six outings were a 4-2 run with losses to Harvard and Lehigh amid wins over Richmond, Army, Dartmouth, and New Hampshire. A win streak over Mount St. Mary’s, Manhattan, Stony Brook, UMBC, Binghamton, Iona, Quinnipiac, Fairfield, and Saint Peter’s came next before a loss to Rider. Since then the Foxes have won their last two games. Those victories have come courtesy of Niagara and Canisius, giving Marist a 15-3 overall record so far this season.

Matched up against Canisius over the weekend, the Red Foxes held a modest 30-27 edge by the break. Marist got much better from there, however, riding a 40-20 second half on the way to a blowout win 70-47. Leading the team in scoring was Josh Pascarelli with 15 points and four assists. Both Elijah Lewis (seven rebounds; two assists) and Jadin Collins-Roberts (four rebounds; four assists) chipped in eight points apiece, and Jackson Price scored nine.

Why the Marist Red Foxes will win

  • Marist has won 11 of its last 12 games.
  • Siena has lost each of its last six Friday road games against the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
  • The home team has won the first half in six of Siena’s last seven games.

Why the Siena Saints will win

  • The road team has won each of Marist’s last four games.
  • Marist has lost nine of its last 12 night games against the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at McCann Arena.
  • Marist has lost the first half in each of its last five night games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Marist vs Siena Prediction

I’ll stay with Marist. The Red Foxes made short work of a struggling Canisius team in their last game, shooting 52.8 percent from the field with a nice 42-23 rebounding edge. Marist racked up 19 team assists along the way as well, but did get into some ball-control issues with 14 turnovers for 17 Canisius points. Marist doesn’t usually score a ton of points this season, but they’ve been winning games with defense. The Foxes have held opponents below 66 points in five straight games, a 4-1 record.

As for Siena, they didn’t shoot great in their loss to Iona over the weekend, notching just 38.9 percent from the field. The Saints were also out-rebounded 36-32 and had 14 turnovers for 13 Iona points. The Saints have posted 71 or more points in all nine wins so far this year, with 82 or more in three of the last four. Going up against this Marist defense will be tricky though, and I don’t think Siena will be able to break through. The Saints may be able to hang around in this one initially, but given the comfortable home environment, I like the Red Foxes to wear them down late and power one out.
