The DePaul Blue Demons and the Marquette Golden Eagles meet in college basketball action from the Fiserv Forum on Tuesday night.
The DePaul Blue Demons will look to snap a four-game losing streak after a 79-64 loss at the hands of Villanova in their last game. Javon Freeman-Liberty leads DePaul in scoring, and assists with 21.6 PPG, 7.6 RPG and 3.3 APG while David Jones has 15.4 PPG with a team-high 7.8 RPG to lead the Blue Demons on the glass. Brandon Johnson has 11.3 PPG with 7.6 RPG to make up the trio of double-digit scorers for the Blue Demons. Nick Ongenda has 9.6 PPG with 4.4 RPG this season. As a team, DePaul is averaging 76.9 PPG on 44.9% shooting from the field, 32.2% from three and 68.1% from the foul line while allowing 69.7 PPG on 41.4% shooting from the field and 34.3% from three this season.
The Marquette Golden Eagles will try to build on back-to-back wins after a 92-64 win over Georgetown last time out. Justin Lewis leads the Golden Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 15.4 PPG and 8 RPG while Darryl Morsell has 12.9 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Marquette so far this season. Tyler Kolek also leads Marquette in assists with a team-high 6.2 APG as well this season. As a team, Marquette is averaging 74.6 PPG on 44.6% shooting from the field, 32.4% from three and 71.5% from the foul line while allowing 69.9 PPG on 40.5% shooting from the field and 31.3% from three this season.
DePaul is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Tuesday games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record. Marquette is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games overall.
I get the case that could be made for DePaul and the points here, but Marquette is the better team here despite the mixed results and DePaul has had the same thing happen to their season after season in Big East play, kill it in non-conference play and get beat up in Big East play, regardless of the opponent. Marquette has been playing well at home and I think they do enough to get the win and cover in this one.
