The Georgetown Hoyas and the Marquette Golden Eagles meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Fiserv Forum. Georgetown sits at 6-18 on the year. The Hoyas lost to Creighton in their last game. As for Marquette, they’re 16-9 on the season and coming off a loss to Butler. Georgetown put up a 6-4 record in their first 10 games this year. The Hoyas haven’t been able to win a game since December 15, however; they’re 0-14 in that time. In the last trio, Georgetown has lost to DePaul and Creighton (twice).
In the Monday game versus Creighton, the Hoyas were down 31-48 by halftime. Georgetown fought back on a 46-40 run but still lost 88-77. Leading scorer Aminu Mohammed put up 27 points with 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Over on the Marquette side, their year began a sketchy 8-6. The Eagles then hit a seven-game win streak in January. Marquette is just 1-3 in their last four however, with a win over Villanova among losses to Providence, UConn and Butler.
In the Butler game, the Eagles were down 27-42 heading into halftime. Marquette hit a 52-43 run in the second half but couldn’t catch up in an 85-79 loss. Leading scorer Justin Lewis put up 27 points with nine rebounds.
The Eagles are 5-0 ATS in their last five at home and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 overall. Marquette is 4-0 ATS in their last four Wednesday games.
Meanwhile, the Hoyas are 2-7 ATS in their last nine road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. Georgetown is 0-5 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Marquette. The Eagles have played some tough customers over their last four games, but generally they’re staying competitive even in difficult matchups. The last time these teams met up back on January 7, Marquette pulled off a dominant 92-64 road victory. The Eagles should be plenty comfortable here, coming home after four road outings in five games. I like Marquette to post a dominant cover and get back into the win column.
