The LIU Sharks and the Marquette Golden Eagles meet in college basketball action from the Fiserv Forum on Thursday night.
The LIU Sharks will be out to build on their 111-50 beatdown win over subdivision Mount St. Vincent. Marko Maletic and Quion Burns each had a team-high 20 points with Burns shooting 7 of 9 from the floor with 6 threes and team-highs of 11 rebounds and 7 assists while Maletic added 6 threes of his own. Jake Cook added 16 points on 6 of 13 shooting with 3 blocks and Tre Wood added 13 points with 6 assists. Cheikh Ndiaye added 11 points on 5 of 7 shooting with 5 rebounds and Jacob Johnson added 10 points with 9 rebounds and 3 steals to cap off the double-digit scoring for LIU in the win.
The Marquette Golden Eagles will try to rebound from a 75-70 defeat at the hands of Purdue on the road in their last game. David Joplin led the way with 21 points on 7 of 11 shooting with 5 threes and 9 rebounds while Cam Jones added 19 points with 5 threes and 6 rebounds. Oso Ighodaro added 10 points with 5 assists to make up the trio of double-digit scorers for Marquette in the win while Tyler Kolek dished out a team-high 11 assists in the win.
LIU is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the under is 13-3 in their last 16 road games. Marquette is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games following an ATS win and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a win while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 home games against a team with a losing road record.
I get the case to be made for an underdog in some spots, and kudos to LIU for going out and getting a win. The problem is that they get snapped back to reality here with a game against Marquette, a Marquette team that is stout defensively under Shaka Smart and really suffocates you. That’s not good for this LIU team that already got stomped by a Utah team that’s not on the same level as Marquette on the defensive end of the floor. I think this one’s all Marquette so lay the points with the Golden Eagles here.
