The Maryland Terrapins and the Marquette Golden Eagles meet Saturday in college basketball action from Fiserv Forum. Here’s a Marquette vs Maryland prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Marquette vs Maryland pick.

Maryland Terrapins Betting Preview

Maryland has three games in the bag so far this season. The first was against Coppin State, and the Terrapins didn’t have too much trouble in that one with a 47-32 edge at the break. It turned into an 83-61 victory in the end. Tops in scoring was Pharrel Payne with 21 points and six boards, while Elijah Saunders added 14 points with three rebounds. In game two the Terrapins took their first loss versus Georgetown. Maryland was down by five at the break and didn’t end up getting any closer in a 70-60 loss. Leading the way was Myles Rice with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Pharrel Payne doubled up on 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Game three for the Terrapins was versus Alcorn State on Tuesday. Following a rather modest six-point edge at the break, the Terrapins hit a 51-37 run the rest of the way in an 84-64 win. Andre Mills posted 16 points with eight rebounds and three assists in that one, while Elijah Saunders chipped in 12 points with two assists and two rebounds in 25 minutes of work.

Marquette Golden Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Marquette side, they opened up their season versus Albany last Monday. The Golden Eagles came out of the locker room with a 30-21 advantage and finished off the game on a 50-32 run for an 80-53 blowout win in the end. Leading the way in scoring was Chase Ross with 15 points, five assists and four rebounds. Zaide Lowery added 13 points with four rebounds and two assists, and Damarius Owens also reached double-figures with 11 points and four rebounds. Marquette’s second outing of the year was last Wednesday versus Southern, and also a home matchup. This one was a little closer, however. The Eagles were up by six at halftime and pulled away on a 57-45 run for a 100-82 victory in the end. Ross was tops this time with 23 points, six boards and six assists in 28 minutes. Caedin Hamilton, Lowery and Sean Jones each had 12 points and two rebounds in the winning home effort. Game three on Sunday was Marquette’s first loss, a 100-77 defeat at the hands of Indiana. leading the team in scoring this time was Chase Ross with 19 points and five rebounds.

In their latest outing Wednesday versus Little Rock, the Golden Eagles got back into the win column. Marquette took a 46-29 edge into the second half, then closed on a 43-20 run on the way to an 89-49 blowout win at home. Chase Ross scored 16 points with five assists and three rebounds this time, and Nigel James added 13 points with two assists in 22 minutes of work.

  • Marquette has lost the first half in each of its last nine day games against the Big Ten Conference.

Marquette vs Maryland Prediction

I’m going to stick with Marquette, but we should have a pretty fun matchup here regardless. The Eagles didn’t have any issues with Little Rock on Wednesday and a lot of different players got minutes. Marquette shot a nice 52.3 percent from the field in that one with a 36-29 edge on rebounds, a 48-22 advantage in the paint and just nine turnovers. That makes 77 or more points in all four games so far for the Golden Eagles. If they can keep up the offense Saturday Marquette should be in good shape.

As for Maryland, they’re coming off a pretty solid effort versus Alcorn State were they benefitted from 21 Braves turnovers. Marquette (probably) isn’t going to be that sloppy, so the Terrapins will have to be sharp in this one.
