The St. John’s Red Storm and the Marquette Golden Eagles meet Saturday in college basketball action from Fiserv Forum. St. John’s is 16-13 so far this year. The Red Storm beat Xavier in their last outing. As for Marquette, they’re 18-11 on the season and coming off a loss to DePaul. St. John’s got off to a solid 9-3 start this year, then hit a sketchy 4-8 run over the next dozen games. The Red Storm are 3-2 in their last five games, losing to Creighton and DePaul with wins over Xavier, Butler and Xavier again during that time.

On Wednesday in the Xavier rematch, the Storm scored 33 points in the first half and 48 more after the break on the way to a nice 81-66 victory. Tops in scoring on the team was Tareq Coburn with 20 points, one rebound and one steal.

Over on the Marquette side, they were sitting at 15-6 back on January 26. The Eagles have gone just 3-5 since then, though. The losses during that time have come versus Providence, UConn, Butler, Creighton and DePaul.

Matched up against DePaul on Wednesday, the Eagles held a 37-33 edge at the break. Marquette was outscored 43-58 in the second half for a 91-80 loss, though. Justin Lewis doubled up on 26 points and 10 rebounds in the defeat.

The Eagles are 5-2 ATS in their last seven at home and 4-14 ATS in their last 18 Saturday games. Marquette is 0-6 ATS in their last six overall.

Meanwhile, the Red Storm are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS win. St. John’s is 2-5 ATS in the last seven Saturday games.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on St. John’s here. The Red Storm’s recent record is pretty spotty but they’ve been scoring pretty well over the past several games. St. John’s has hit 78 or more points in each of the last five games, going 3-2 in that time with two close losses. Marquette hasn’t done too badly on offense lately either; they’ve hit 72 or more points in six of their last seven. This matchup is probably going to be a tight one, but I think St. John’s can get in there on a cover.
