The UConn Huskies and the Marquette Golden Eagles meet Saturday in college basketball action from Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. Here’s a Marquette vs. UConn prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Marquette vs. UConn pick.

UConn Huskies Betting Preview

This year UConn opened the year on a 4-1 run with a lone loss to Arizona in that time. The Huskies would then hit an 18-game win streak that lasted from November 23 versus Bryant to February 3 versus Xavier. UConn would lose to St. John’s and then beat Butler, Georgetown, Villanova, St. John’s and Seton Hall over the next six outings for a 27-3 overall record so far.

In the Seton Hall game last weekend, the Huskies opened up the game on a 33-32 deficit. After the break UConn got better with a 39-34 advantage the rest of the way. The end result was a 71-67 victory on the Huskies’ home floor. Leading the team in scoring was Alex Karaban with 23 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Solo Ball added 14 points and two assists as well.

Marquette Golden Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Marquette side, they could only muster six wins in their first 19 games of the season. The Golden Eagles would then get victories in three of the next five outings over Providence, Creighton, and Butler. Losses to Villanova, Xavier, St. John’s and DePaul came in the next five games, giving the Eagles a 10-19 overall record in the first 29 games.

Matched up against Providence on Wednesday, the Eagles held a comfortable lead at halftime, 37-23. Marquette kept it going in the second half with a 41-33 run and eventually powered out a solid win on the road, 78-56. Adrien Stevens was tops on the team with 21 points and four rebounds alongside four steals. Nigel James added 20 points with seven rebounds as well.

Why the Marquette Golden Eagles will win

  • Marquette has won 23 of its last 26 games at Fiserv Forum when playing with a rest disadvantage.

Why the Connecticut Huskies will win

  • Connecticut has won each of its last 14 March games as a top-15 AP-ranked team.
  • Marquette has lost each of its last seven games against AP-ranked opponents.
  • Connecticut has won the first half in each of its last 13 March games as a top-10 AP-ranked team.

Marquette vs UConn Prediction

I’ll just stay with UConn. The Huskies had a little trouble shaking off a good Seton Hall team last weekend but everything worked out in a four-point home victory. UConn shot 45.7 percent from the field in that one but did miss a few free throws (20-of-29 for 69 percent) and had 14 turnovers for 14 Pirates points. The 30-24 deficit in the paint didn’t help either. Still, the Huskies are sitting on a three-game win streak and they’ve taken victories in five of the last six overall.

Back on January 4, when these teams last met up, the Huskies powered out a 73-57 victory at home. In that one UConn shot a tepid 42.9 percent from the field with just 20.8 percent (5-of-24) from 3-point range. The Huskies did well on the boards (a 44-34 advantage), however, and held the Eagles to just 32.3 percent shooting from the field. I like UConn to rally and power one out in the road rematch.
